Jessie Dent was a graduate of Howard University where she was a founder of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and marched in the 1913 woman suffrage parade in Washington, DC. A lifelong educator in Galveston, Texas, Dent won the fight for equal pay for teachers in the US District Court for the Southern District.
