Hi, all.
I'm Grace Ellen, a fourth year medical student at Upstate Snoring College of Medicine with my medical student.
Minute.
One really surprising thing I've learned is babies don't need to drink water.
We pay a lot of attention to hydration nowadays as it has many benefits.
However, many of us aren't drinking enough water.
And yes, I'm looking at you, but babies actually don't nee to drink water to stay hydrated.
And their first six months babies can't regulate their water balance.
Their kidneys are still growing and can't handle too much volume.
Too much pure water dilutes the sodium in the blood and cause water intoxication.
It is also know as hyponatremia, which can cause severe side effects brai swelling, seizures, even death.
So the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends only feeding babie breast milk or formulas prepared according to instructio on tour around six months old.
