Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipHi, I'm Doctor Vasantha Sarma, a physician and currently master of Public Health student at Syracuse University with my medical school, Minit Public Health.
Visit.
One of the most inspiring things I've learned so far is the incredible resilience of our human body.
I've seen how our body heals, adapt, and fight against illnesses in ways nothing short of miraculous.
From the immune defenses against germs to the body's capacity to recover from trauma.
So health is not just the absence of disease, but also about nurturin our body's incredible potential to heal itself.
And small, everyday things contribute big time to our well-being.
Like how exercising regularly cuts down our risk of heart disease by 30%.
Jazz is the immune system, brightens our moo and improves our sleep to boot.
Like how eating a delicious Mediterranean diet lindens our life by a couple of years or having the really big picture since science took us out of the dark ages around 1800.
Our kids have grown from a 40% chance of living to adulthood to 95%.
Hint, hint get those vaccinations.
And we grown ups have gon from living less than 40 years to living about 80.
Cool.
Cool, Well, that's it for my public health medical school, MIT.
I am Doctor Santha Sarma from s U.S.
Department of Public Health.
Heading out for a buggy stroll.
